Since 2010, we have had one or two boys’ teams competing in FLL. In the past we had a variety of crazy team names, including Awesome Acrobotic Brain Busters (A2B2) and Bacon Creative Juice (BCJ). In 2012, members from A2B2 and BCJ are competing together as Gear Guys.

The Gear Guys tackled the Nature’s Fury challenge in 2013-2014. On February 1st, they competed in the 2014 New Mexico FLL Championship in Albuquerque, NM. After a long day filled with triumphs and challenges, they emerged victorious as the winners of the 1st Place Champions Award, the highest honor at a regional Championship!

This honor earns them a place at a post-season championship. It looks likely that they’ll get an invitation to compete at the International Open in Toronto, Canada this June! We’re very proud of all the Gear Guys have accomplished, despite the challenges they faced this season!

On January 26, 2013, the Gear Guys competed in the FLL New Mexico Regional Tournament. They did excellent in all areas of the competition and after a long day emerged with the 2nd Place Champions Award!

Earning the 2nd Place Overall Award for the region also secured an invitation to the prestigious 2013 FLL North American Open held in LEGOLAND California! The boys traveled to Carlsbad, CA May 16-19, 2013. In addition to competing in all aspects of the competition, they got to meet people from across the United States, Canada and even Korea. Between events, they had a great time running around LEGOLAND.
